LAD #12 Lincoln's First Inaugural Address
Lincoln's First Inaugural Address addressed mainly the issues concerning the sectionalism within the nation. He stated that he had taken the oathe to "protect and defend the United State's Constitution" and would uphold the laws and make sure they were carried out throughout the states. Lincoln also made clear that he would fully support the Fugitive Slave Law and in addition there would be no invasion of the South unless it was completely necessary. Furthermore, he continued to say that he did not object to the proposed Corwin Amendment which protected slavery in the states in which it already existed. Lincoln also addressed that the Constituion does not say what can or cannot be done in the territories regarding the slavery issue. He feels the need to perserve the Union, the government and the constitution in order to prevent a civil war from outbreaking. LAD #13 Lincoln's Gettsyburg Address
In this address, Lincoln expresses his utmost gratitude and respect to the soldier who lost their lives in the on-going civil war. For those brave men who struggled and died in the Battle of Gettysburg, they will not have died in vain but in the name of freedom. Therefore because of their courage to fight, the people's government will never perish from the earth.
