In Lincoln's First Inaugrual Address, the focus was mainly his goals on how to avoid a war and to establish and maintain unity within the nation. However, in Lincoln's Second Inaugural Address the civil war had broken out against the South. In the address Lincoln states that the slavery issue was a main cause of the war and that there was those who were willing to give up on the nation in order to fight for this cause. Lincoln's response to this is that the North must have a firm stance on the matter and fight in the name of God and righteousness.

In addition, if there are some people who are suitable, they would be accepted into the army. This act was an act of justice and of humanity which shaped society to what it is today.
