LAD #22
President Woodrow Wilson begins his address by stating that there has been a shift in power and both the House of Representatives and Senate are majority of Democrats. He continues to say that although a party may have success, the party only matters if it will be able to change and refresh things for the benefit of the nation. He then addresses the fact that although the US is blessed with an abundance of material wealth and a great system of government , the nation does has it's flaws. The nation has not conserved waste and has used much of the land for industry. Also there has been negative effects due to industry such as the agony that many people have suffered in the mines and factories. Also that the government has forgotten the people and at times can be selfish and used for private purposes. Due to the desire for the nation to be great, the conditions in order to achieve greatness were crude and heartless tactics. Therefore it is the governments duty to correct the evils while maintaining the good. Wilson then mentions the things that ought to be changed such as the tariff which cuts the US from the part of the commerce in the world and also the banking system which is based on the needs of the government. The government should begin to focus on the service of humanities and the health of the nation and its women, men and children. Wilson closes his address and says that the government will restore and not destroy. Justice and ideals will be given back to the people. Wilson promises that the government is dedicated to rectifying the corrupt situation and correct the wrongs that businesses have posed upon the people.
